Silver is alive. It changes with you.
Your piece is sterling silver 925: 92.5% pure silver with a little copper for strength. Over time, silver reacts with air, skin and moisture and slowly darkens. That is natural, and with a little care your piece stays beautiful for years.
About the dark details
Many Kagenoishi pieces have an oxidised finish: recesses and textures are darkened on purpose to bring out the depth of the design. Please do not try to remove it. Polish only the raised, shiny surfaces.
Everyday care
- Last on, first off. Put your jewelry on after perfume, lotion and hairspray, and take it off first.
- Take it off before swimming in pools or the sea, showering, sauna, sports, the gym, cleaning and sleeping.
- Keep it away from chemicals: chlorine, bleach, household cleaners and acetone damage silver and the oxidised finish.
- Wear it often. Gentle contact with skin keeps silver bright. Pieces left in a drawer tarnish faster.
- Store it dry, on its own, in a soft pouch, so pieces do not scratch each other.
Cleaning
Light tarnish
Gently rub the raised surfaces with a silver polishing cloth. Stay away from the dark recesses.
Everyday dirt
Wash in warm water with a drop of mild soap. Use a soft brush for textured areas, rinse, and dry completely with a soft cloth.
What to avoid
Silver dips and liquid cleaners, toothpaste, baking soda, ultrasonic cleaners, and abrasive cloths on oxidised areas. They strip the dark finish and scratch the surface.
